First Steps To An Online Business

Getting started in the Business world In today's digital world, the idea of running an online business is both thrilling and challenging. As I begin this journey, one of the important projects I am undertaking this semester is my personal reflection blog. This space will enable me to reflect deeply on my learning experiences and draw connections between the course material and my life. I hope it will also help others who are thinking about starting their own business find some help and mistakes to avoid along their own journey. Understanding Online Business This week has been really challenging for me as I strive to learn something completely out of my wheelhouse. I have always loved the idea of running my own business, but I have avoided it as the thought seems overwhelming. This week's lessons helped me get excited about the potential of actually finding and doing something that works. Using the Google Ad keyword planner app to look up possible ideas and think about their potential has motivated me in this endeavor. The Importance of a Business Plan I think my most important takeaway from this week's learning is how important it is to create a plan. It is difficult to know what business model to follow or even what product you want to use if you don't have at least a small idea to get you started. I love the brainstorming we have done this week and now have a bunch of ideas to explore. I like that it isn't simply choosing an idea either. We are compiling ideas into an Excel sheet using data we can find through the Google Ad Keyword Planner. Which is going to be a great help for me in narrowing down ideas to something that is realistic, practical, and has the most potential.

Bad and Good Key Words This week we learned the importance of choosing keywords that people might use to search for our products that aren't too broad or too specific. What I learned about Keywords and Google Ads this week has been eye-opening. I never knew that companies choose keywords for their websites. I also didn’t realize how important it is to choose the right keywords to get more traffic to your website. I learned a lot this week about what makes a good keyword and a bad one. You don't want it to be too specific because that could hinder some potential clients but you also don't want it too broad or people will be led to your site that have no interest in your product. For my website, because I am offering Photography portraits in a specific location, it is important that my keywords lead people who need a photographer in Colorado.
